Comanche County brush fire mostly contained

A fire that has been smoldering in Comanche County is 80 percent to 90 percent contained, officials at the county's emergency management office said today. So far, the fire that started Tuesday afternoon 20 miles east of Comanche near Lamkin, has scorched 4,200 acres, destroyed one home, two hunting cabins and three outbuildings. The Texas Forest Service reported that numerous other homes were saved. Several families in Lamkin and north of Lamkin on Farm Road 1702 were evacuated. Lamkin is about 110 miles east of Abilene on State Highway 36. The fire also destroyed other property including several vehicles and boats. Firefighters from 30 departments have battled the blaze around the clock since Tuesday.
