Financials lift Tokyo, but drag on Sydney

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Asian markets were mixed early Tuesday, with financials such as Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group lifting Japanese stocks as trading resumed after a holiday, while Commonwealth Bank of Australia retreated in Sydney, giving up some of its steep gains from the previous session. The Nikkei 225 Average rose 172.69 points to 12,976.39 in Tokyo.
