Lebanon’s Ambassador to the UN Nawwaf Salam responded to Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s statement that UN Security Council Resolution 1701 “is not and will not be implemented.â€_ Salam accused Israel of not abiding by Resolution 1701, thus causing it not to be implemented. He gave a detailed list of Israel’s ongoing violations during a Security Council session on the Middle East on Tuesday. Salam said that Lebanon is holding to Resolution 1701 and accused Israel of carrying out an average of 20 violations per day, the latest of which was Israel’s infiltration into Lebanon’s telephone network after the prisoner swap with Hezbollah last week, where some Lebanese civilians received automated warning messages coming from the Jewish state.
