EU in dialogue on election promises

THE European Union says it is in continuous dialogue with the interim Government on its implementation of Fiji's commitments to them. This is according to the Fiji office. A Radio New Zealand report quoting the charge d'affaire for the European Commission in New Zealand George Cunningham said the EU would wait for the outcome of the Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Niue next month before making a decision on sugar funding. "I think we have to stick with the timetable, or else we might find ourselves having extensions which lead to nowhere so we feel that the commitment has been mad, and we think also in line with what Foreign Minister Winston Peters said, that certainly it is possible to have the elections on schedule," Mr Cunningham said.
