Monterey Green Update

MONTEREY, Calif.- The city of Monterey has marked the one-year anniversary for signing the U.S. Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement, and now the green movement continues. City leaders gathered near city hall Tuesday afternoon for an environmental progress report. Beginning August 15th, the city will introduce the one-year voluntary phase of their "Green Building Program". Beginning in 2009, the effort to become more environmentally friendly will become mandatory for homeowners wanting to rebuild and remodel. The city is also turning to alternative fuels, with their push to use B20 BioDiesel. All city fire engines use the fuel source, which is made locally on the Central Coast from recycled vegetable oil.
