Richard Newton, Geneva International aid agency, Oxfam International, has called on the major role players at the Doha talks to stop gambling with the livelihoods of the poor. Staging a somewhat unusual protest in Geneva today, Oxfam said the developed world must deliver on its original commitment to put development ahead of self-interest. The protest comprised people playing the roles of the major players at Doha around a casino table with subsidies, market access and billions of dollars as bargaining chips. Oxfam says it is concerned that people have lost sight of the original developmental focus of the Doha round.
