To deploy a new Mobile User Objective System, the U.S. military says its next-generation narrowband global mobile satellite communications system, General Dynamics C4 Systems , recently mounted three 18.4-meter satellite antennas on 53-foot-tall pedestals in Wahiawa, Hawaii. The responsibility for the ground-based segment of the MUOS system is managed by General Dynamics, under a contract to Lockheed Martin , according to the companies. The Wahiawa ground station is the first of four that will be equipped with MUOS satellite antenna systems. Officials say that ground-based war fighters around the globe will now have a MUOS system that provides cell phone-like services to them.
