Company set to start building its LNG system off N. Shore

By Jay Fitzgerald Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - Updated 43m ago Work is expected to start today on a second LNG buoy-system based off the North Shore, as energy companies rush to meet ever-growing demand for natural gas for Massachusetts homes and power plants. Suez LNG, whose French parent company owns the Distrigas LNG depot in Everett, will commence construction today on a $1 billion “Neptune” undersea project that eventually will involve pumping natural gas from giant LNG ships off the coast of Gloucester. The 13-mile underwater pipeline, connected to a floating offshore buoy system where tankers unload their energy cargo, is expected to be delivering natural gas by the end of 2009.
