announced Monday that it's suing Richard X. Bove and his firm, Ladenburg Thalmann, for defamation and negligence. The bank is seeking damages because one of its holding companies, BFC Financial, was included on Bove's recent "Who's Next" list, which featured firms that the analyst says have insufficient capital levels. The troubled Fort-Lauderdale bank is run by Alan B. Levan, a guy who isn't shy about legal fights or taking on big personalities. He recently began waging an unsuccessful war to remove Office Depot Chief Executive Steve Odland and has had his share of legal scuffles some involving bad-mouthing by the media and Federal regulators.
