From thousands, a happy few make first 'Idol' cut There was no need to ask Allie Hesh how her "American Idol" audition turned out yesterday. Her tears told the story. Allie, 17, stood behind Freedom Hall just outside what the "American Idol" crew called the "non-winners door," which was 50 feet and a few shattered dreams away from the "winners door." Her mascara was a mess. "I thought I did my best, and that's all you can ask for," said Allie, of Campbellsville, Ky., her cheeks wet. "I'll probably try again." She was one of nearly 10,000 hopefuls who auditioned yesterday for producers of "American Idol," the Fox network's star-making competition/reality show.
