Seven Saturday shows, specials lead into election The folks at "Saturday Night Live" will be busier than usual in the run-up to the presidential election. In addition to a trio of previously announced prime-time specials geared to the election, the late-night institution will go live more than usual in the early part of the 2008-09 season. "SNL" will kick off its 34th season Saturday, Sept. 13 and offer up new episodes for four consecutive weeks, a rarity for the show. A total of seven new episodes will air prior to the election, with the only Saturday off coming on Oct. 11. Additionally, the show will expand its total number of episodes from the usual 20 to 22.
