RAYS NOTES: No. 1 fan

ST. PETERSBURG -- A picture of 4-year-old Kaleb Charles and the nasty cut he suffered next to his right eye Sunday when he was struck by a foul ball hung next to the lineup card on the bulletin board inside the Tampa Bay Rays clubhouse before Monday's 4-0 victory against the Oakland Athletics. Charles, who lives in Bradenton, was hit by a line drive by Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Joe Inglett in the first inning. In the photo Charles is wearing a Rays cap, smiling and holding up his left index finger signifying he and the Rays are No. 1. EVERYBODY HITS It was voluntary batting practice, scheduled for 3:45 on Monday afternoon, yet just about every member of the Rays showed up. "It was nice. A lot of guys came out," Maddon said.
