VIENNA (Thomson Financial) - Rudolf Fischer, Telekom Austria's deputy chief executive and the head of its fixed-line segment, will leave the company this autumn for 'personal reasons', the Viennese daily Die Presse reported citing unnamed sources within the telecom group. According to the newspaper, Fischer did not repudiate reports of his impending departure, but instead said he could not provide an official statement 'at this time'. Separately, the business weekly Format reported that Telekom Austria has 'firm' plans to lower its headcount by 2,100 by the end of 2010 and hopes to strike 1,500 jobs by the end of 2009.
