Shots Required As School Approaches: County Health Department Providing Immunizations

Posted on: Monday, 21 July 2008, 03:00 CDT By Andy Reid, South Florida Sun-Sentinel Jul. 21--The last weeks of summer slipping away may be painful enough for Palm Beach County students, but for many children the new school year cannot start without feeling the prick of a needle. Proof of immunization shots is required for all kindergartners and transfer students in order to start school on the Aug. 18. Students in the voluntary pre-K program also need to show that they have had multiple vaccinations and seventh-graders need a tetanus/diphtheria booster shot. Kindergarten students and some others also may need updates. To help parents get their children ready, the Palm Beach County Health Department has vaccines on hand and has increased its public outreach to provide immunizations.
