9 Afghan police killed in clashes with troops

KABUL, Afghanistan — An official says foreign troops called in airstrikes during an apparently mistaken clash with Afghan police, killing nine police officers and wounding five in the country's west. Younus Rasuli, the deputy governor of Farah province, said a convoy of foreign forces — possibly NATO or those from the U.S.-led coalition — showed up at Anar Derah district, near the Iranian border. He says the foreign troops had not informed local Afghan officials they were coming, and the police thought they were enemy fighters.
