Four of the five players at 4 under par or better as of 2:45 p.m. today in the first round of the Champions Tour 3M Championship at TPC Twin Cities had to earn their way into the event via a Monday qualifier. Gene Jones, a career mini tour participant, is in front of the pack at 6 under through 12 holes. He leads by two over fellow Monday qualifiers Rick Karbowski (through 13 holes), Steve Thomas (13) and David Ogrin (12). Gary Hallberg, an exempt player, is also at 4 under through 11 holes. There are six players at 3 under par. The third hole, a 546-yard par 5, is playing to the players liking. There have been four eagles there today...
