Route 236 crash causes road closure

South Berwick police and fire departments along with Central Maine Power crews repair a downed utility pole on Route 236 following a single-vehicle crash Friday morning.Deb Cram photo SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Power has been restored to all residents in three towns after a vehicle plowed into a utility pole on Route 236 just before 7 a.m. According to police, Scott Perkins, 34, of Rochester, N.H., fell asleep at the wheel at 6:53 a.m., and the 1995 Ford Explorer he was driving veered off the road and slammed into the pole in the vicinity of Brattle Street. Sgt. Jack Gove said the pole was broken. Power lines that crossed Route 236 at that point fell into the street. At 9:45 a.m., traffic was still being diverted around the scene, Gove said.
