JOHN NAUGHTON • REGISTER STAFF WRITER • July 18, 2008 First-time state softball qualifier Fort Madison will play in tomorrow's Class 3-A championship. Fort Madison pounded 12 hits and beat Assumption in a semifinal today, 6-4. Courtney Herrick and Marisa Basham both drove in two runs. Assumption scored all four of its runs in the seventh inning. Paige Sheeder drove in two runs and scored another. Fort Madison is looking for its first state championship trophy since the 2000 state baseball winners.
