Philadelphia 86, Washington 72 LAS VEGAS, July 16 – Rookie Marreese Speights and sophomore Jason Smith each scored a game-high 24 points and led the Philadelphia 76ers past the Washington Wizards 86-72 at COX Pavilion on Wednesday. The Sixers led by as many as seven in the opening quarter behind Speights and Smith who combined for 20 of the teams 22 first quarter points. Trailing by as many as seven in the quarter, the Wizards came back to tie the game at 22 heading into the second quarter with Andray Blatche dropping in 10 points for Washington. Steady play was on display for much of the game before the Sixers took a commanding lead early in the fourth quarter and led by as many as 17 in the game.
