Mokbel sister-in-law pleads guilty (AAP)

The jailed sister-in-law of alleged drug trafficker Tony Mokbel has pleaded guilty to perjury charges. In an attempt to provide funds for Tony Mokbel's bail surety, Renate Lisa Mokbel, 38, signed an affidavit declaring assets, including a luxury Brunswick home, belonged to her when they did not. She also falsely stated in the Victorian Supreme Court that a list of assets belonged to her. Mokbel is currently serving a two-year jail sentence after failing to come up with a $1 million surety when her brother-in-law fled Australia. She appeared in court via video link on Thursday to plead guilty to the perjury charges. As the charges were read out, Mokbel was asked how she pleaded. She replied "guilty" to both charges.
