20-year-old is leader on summer team By MARTIN FRANK • The News Journal • July 16, 2008 Thaddeus Young still is the youngest player on the 76ers, even younger than the team's 2008 first-round draft pick, Marreese Speights. But on the Sixers summer league team in Las Vegas, Young is the grizzled veteran and leader. Young, who turned 20 last month, is averaging 24.5 points through the Sixers' first two games. The Sixers played later Tuesday night. "You would think nobody here would listen to me, but they are," Young said on a conference call Tuesday. "Somebody called me [an old head], and I said, 'I'm still young.' " Maybe so, but Young grew up -- literally and figuratively -- last season as a rookie playing out of position as a power forward.
