MfD: Czech patients may be treated by Vietnamese nurses

By ČTK / Published 14 July 2008 Prague, July 11 (CTK) - The shortage of health personnel in the Czech Republic is so serious that hospital directors are thinking of hiring nurses from as far afield as Vietnam, daily Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD) wrote Friday. Miloslav Ludvik, director of the prestigious Motol Teaching Hospital in Prague, recently paid a visit to Vietnam to see whether nurses could be "imported" from there, MfD writes. "At present, we want to hire ten women and find out whether this would be feasible. The language barrier is tremendous," Ludvik is quoted as having said. He said that the Motol hospital lacked 120 out of the required 2200 nurses. The problem has affected every ward, he added.
