Stanford grad Amber Liu faces Schnyder in opening round next week at Stanford by Rick Eymer Palo Alto Online Staff Stanford grad Amber Liu received a wild card into the Bank of the West Classic and will meet eighth-seeded Patty Schnyder in the first round. The two-time NCAA women's singles champion is matched with one of the WTA tour's most-experienced player. Schnyder, the top player in her home country of Switzerland, turned pro in August of 1994. Liu turned 10 that summer, and turned pro 12 years later. Schnyder is making her sixth visit to the Bank of the West Classic, which gets underway with the qualifying tournament on Saturday.
