OAKLAND (BCN) ― A judge has issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the owners of the California Hotel in Oakland from shutting down the building Tuesday, according to the lawyer for 51 low-income, senior citizen renters who faced the prospect of being evicted from their homes. Attorney John Murcko, who represents the tenants, said Alameda County Superior Court Judge Frank Roesch on Friday also ordered Oakland Community Housing, Inc., which owns the hotel, not to discontinue management services or terminate water, gas, electricity and garbage services. He said the renters will return to court on July 30 to seek a preliminary injunction against Oakland Community Housing.
