HANFORD HOAX: Bogus e-mail claims contract awarded to Battelle

KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jul. 8--Hundreds of Hanford employees received an e-mail announcement this morning saying Battelle had been awarded the mission support contract. But Department of Energy officials say the e-mail was a hoax. "There has been no contract award," said Geoff Tyree, a Department of Energy spokesman. An unknown number of employees received the e-mail, which appeared to be an official press release from the Department of Energy saying that Battelle and CSC had been awarded the contract for mission support for some work at the Hanford nuclear reservation. Battelle and CSC, or Computer Sciences Corp., had bid on the contract and so had Lockheed Martin. In June, Lockheed Martin officials confirmed they were finalists for the contract work, which is valued at up to $325 million a year for up to 10 years.... [read full story]
