14 African migrants missing off Spanish coast after boat capsizes; 23 survive

Rescue teams searched Monday for 14 migrants from Africa missing and feared dead after their boat capsized overnight in rough seas. The vessel capsized in waves 10 to 13 feet high early Monday when a patrol boat intercepted it about 60 nautical miles off the coastal city of Motril, the Interior Ministry said. Crews pulled 23 Nigerians from the water — three of them women, including one who was pregnant, officials said. Survivors told officials 37 people had been on board, the ministry's office in the southern Spanish city of Granada said. Officials were searching the area by plane, boat and helicopter but there was little chance of finding survivors in the rough waters, maritime rescue official Miguel Zea said.
