Though there were more lucrative offers on the table from other NHL teams, sharpshooting forward Marian Hossa, an unrestricted free agent after leading Pittsburgh to the Stanley Cup Finals last month, chose the Detroit Red Wings over the Rangers today. Hossa, believed to have an enormous offer from Edmonton for between $9 million and $10 million a season, accepted a one-year deal for $7.4 million from the team defeated the Penguins to win this year's Stanley Cup in six games. The Rangers also are parting ways with Sean Avery, who has signed with the Dallas Stars. Hossa's choice of Detroit means Jaromir Jagr's campaign on Broadway may continue.
