The Black Cats were handed a home tie in the opening game of the new campaign, against the Merseysiders, on Saturday August 16. But Sunderland's record at home to the Reds is not good - with only one win in the last 49 years. The Wearsiders' last win at home to Liverpool was in the Premier League on December 15, 2002 - Gavin McCann and Michael Proctor scored in the 2-1 victory, with Milan Baros scoring Liverpool's goal. Sunderland's previous win at home to the Reds was back on August 30, 1958, when Reg Pearce and Donald 'Rhino' Kichenbrand were on target in a 2-1 win at Roker Park. Since then, Liverpool have won 14 of the previous 23 league games on Wearside, while there has been eight draws.... [read full story]
