Reds Record Not The Best

By Martin Walker Sunderland will have to put their poor home record against Liverpool to one side when the season kicks off in August. The Black Cats were handed a home tie in the opening game of the new campaign, against the Merseysiders, on Saturday August 16. But Sunderland's record at home to the Reds is not good - with only one win in the last 49 years. The Wearsiders' last win at home to Liverpool was in the Premier League on December 15, 2002 - Gavin McCann and Michael Proctor scored in the 2-1 victory, with Milan Baros scoring Liverpool's goal. Sunderland's previous win at home to the Reds was back on August 30, 1958, when Reg Pearce and Donald 'Rhino' Kichenbrand were on target in a 2-1 win at Roker Park.
