HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Hofstra University and the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System signed a formal agreement Wednesday to create a new medical school at Hofstra, naming Lawrence G. Smith, North Shore-LIJ's chief medical officer, as its first dean.
