Gulf blessed with lots of space for solar power

Dubai: The UAE and the Gulf region are in a unique position to harness and eventually export solar energy with an abundance of space and ideal climate conditions, said France's Helene Pelosse, the newly elected interim director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena). As she prepared to set up the agency and take up her post in Abu Dhabi, Gulf News spoke to Pelosse about the UAE's and the region's potential role in a future where hydrocarbon energy reliance will be replaced by renewable energy, as well as how regional states can maintain their positions as leaders in energy exports when the oil era is over.
