Jun 25, 2009 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Eli Yishai proposed to impose a higher VAT rate on "luxury" fruit and vegetables, as an alternative to charging VAT on all produce. Yishai's proposal will impose VAT on items such as lychees, papaya, and passionfruit. Under his plan, the VAT rate on those items would be higher than the Treasury proposed to charge on all fruits and vegetables.
