Palmiero-Winters named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Amy Palmiero-Winters (Hicksville, N.Y.) has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the 10th Annual Heartland "Spirit of the Prairie" 100 Mile Endurance Run on October 11, in Cassoday, Ks. A below-the-knee amputee, Palmiero-Winters won the women's 100 mile race in 18 hours 54 minutes 13 seconds. It was the second fastest time in race history and she became the first woman amputee to finish a 100-mile run. Now in its eighth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport.
