Now a year later, he's attempting a comeback, starting in Shanghai The 26-year-old hurdler plans to compete in the Golden Grand Prix GUANGZHOU, China (AP) -- A year after his dramatic withdrawal from the Beijing Olympics because of a foot injury, hurdler Liu Xiang is attempting a comeback. He limped away from the Bird's Nest track, disappointing millions of fans who wanted to see him defend his Olympic title on home soil. The 26-year-old Liu -- one of China's biggest sports stars -- plans to compete Sunday for the first time since August 2008. He's scheduled to run the 110-meter hurdles in his hometown at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix. "There is a degree of risk, but I think I can compete at this point," Liu said Friday in Shanghai.
