66ers Get Wild in Fifth, Lose Second Half Opener 5-3

June 26, 2009 - California League (CalL) Inland Empire 66ers LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. -Preston Mattingly hit a two-run home run but the 66ers were held hitless after the fifth inning as the Lake Elsinore Storm opened up the second half with a 5-3 win Thursday night at The Diamond. Leading 3-1 in the fifth inning, 66ers reliever Mario Alvarez lost control of the strike zone and walked three Storm hitters after not walking a hitter this season. The Storm also used a pair of wild pitches, along with an RBI single from Ali Solis and sacrifice fly to tie the ballgame. In the sixth, Danny Payne ripped an RBI triple to the gap in left-center before scoring when Solis laid down a suicide squeeze sacrifice bunt to extend Lake Elsinore's lead to 5-3.
