RTA considers straightening Kings Highway (ABC)

A realignment of the Kings Highway leaving Queanbeyan is being considered as part of a multi-million-dollar safety upgrade. The New South Wales Government has announced it will contribute $10 million towards a joint improvement fund with the federal and ACT governments. There has been political pressure in recent years to upgrade the main road between Canberra and the NSW south coast because of increased traffic to the new Headquarters Joint Operations Command near Bungendore. The upgrade will involve constructing more overtaking lanes, widening the road and improving corners.
