Cities are prime territory for bikes if you can create safe paths. Some european countries, notably Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany, have been moving towards safe bicycling in and around cities for the past three decades. In some cities, Copenhagen and Amsterdam, as many people now use bikes as cars. Treehugger points to even more change in Copenhagen with a trial to close a major road to cars as Copenhagen closes in on its goal of fifty percent cycle commuting by 2015.
