James Busch Orthwein, a former chief executive officer of D'Arcy MacManus Masius advertising, a Natonal Football League owner, a sportsman, and an artist, died Friday at his home in Huntleigh after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Orthwein was 84. He was a great grandson of Anheuser-Busch founder Adolphus Busch. After he became chairman and president of D'Arcy in 1970, Mr. Othwein took the advertising agency to the global stage merging with advertising companies in Detroit and London. In 1985, the St. Louis-based company then merged with Benton & Bowles of New York to form D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles. Mr. Orthwein was the owner of the New England Patriots from 1992 to 1994 and was instrumental in bringing the Los Angeles Rams to St. Louis when he gave his 65 percent interest in the football stadium lease to FANS Inc., the...
