Updated Aug. 18 Though there are still three races until the Chase for the Championship officially begins, with Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards dominating the win column, the battle began long ago. The stage was set early when Edwards captured the second and third races of the season. But his second victory drew a penalty from NASCAR for a loose oil reservoir cover, and he received no Chase bonus points. The next week, Busch broke through with his first victory. In the 19 races since, the two have combined for 10 more, seven for Busch and three for Edwards. But the roles could easily have been reversed. Edwards finished second four times in that stretch.
