Hamilton is on high alert as a heavy rain warning is issued for the already sodden Waikato region. More than 100 millimetres is expected to fall in the Taupo water catchment tomorrow, which will add significantly to the volume of water in Lake Taupo and the Waikato River. Hamilton City Council spokesman Philip Burton says some walkways along the Waikato River are flooded and if more rain arrives, nearby roads could be flooded. Mr Burton says Mighty River Power is increasing the outflow from Lake Karapiro to ease the river system.
