McCain says Georgia does not require military response

By Karen Augé The Denver Post ASPEN — Russian aggression toward the former Soviet Republic of Georgia is a "serious international crisis," but not one that demands a military response from the United States, Sen. John McCain told a gathering in Aspen Thursday afternoon. Rather, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said he favors quick admission of Georgia, Ukraine and other former soviet countries to NATO. The fighting in a breakaway region of Georgia, which has killed hundreds and sparked widespread condemnation of Russia's actions, represents "a reassertion of the age old Russian ambitions," McCain said.
