Zille says the main thrust of their plan is to make homes safe again The Democratic Alliance (DA) has released to the public its radical five-step plan to tackle the country's rampant crime. Revealing details of the DA's Criminal Justice Plan in Johannesburg today, party leader Helen Zille said the main thrust of the plan was to win back the streets from criminals and also make homes safe again. The party's plan involves increasing the number of police officers to 250 000, as opposed to government's target of 190 000. The DA also wants employ a further 30 000 detectives and reinstate some specialised units, including the Narcotics Bureau, while retaining others, like the Scorpions.
