Posted to the web 12 August 2008 Rose Athumani Until the 1998 bombing of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, no one had believed that financial crime in the form of money laundering existed in the country. Inadequate knowledge and information made people fail to understand the extent of money laundering or terrorism financing in Tanzania. Addressing participants to a week-long workshop on the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing in Dar es Salaam, US ambassador to Tanzania Mark Green underlined the importance of the expertise in tracking down dirt money.
