Family of deceased girl files $7.5 million lawsuit against Rutherford County

By MARK BELL • GANNETT TENNESSEE • August 11, 2008 The family of a deceased 11-year-old Hopkinsville, Ky. who was hit and killed by an on-duty Rutherford County Sheriff’s Deputy on July 17 has filed a $7.5 million dollar circuit court lawsuit against Ron Killings, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department and Rutherford County. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Lakeisha M. White by mother Montessa Gomez and other family members allege actions of negligence. The suit states that Killings, acting on behalf of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department, failed to exercise due care, failed to keep his vehicle under due and reasonable control, was driving at an excessive speed over the posted speed limit, and was driving in a reckless manner without regard for the safety of the public in general.
