Independent Committee to Probe Kruger Park Fire

Posted to the web 25 July 2008 Bathandwa Mbola Pretoria The Mayoral Committee of the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality has decided to set up an independent committee to investigate the cause of the blaze at the Kruger Park flats in Pretoria earlier this week. The fire, which is said to have started in a rubbish chute on one of the top floors of the high-rise building on Tuesday, claimed the lives of five residents, including a toddler. Many of the residents have not been able to return to their flats and do not have alternative accommodation. To be headed by University of Pretoria Professor David Mosomawill, the team will investigate the cause of the fire and release a report containing finding and recommendations before the 31 August.
