Posted to the web 13 October 2008 Irene !hoaës Gobabeb The Minister of Environment of Tourism, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa, has lauded conservationists of hundred years ago for coming up with the idea of protected areas. Nandi-Ndaitwa said although their intentions were not good at that time, it at least benefits Namibians and their generations to come. "It has come to be known that initially the German colonial government established the Namib Game Reserve as a buffer zone to restrict English sovereignty to Walvis Bay. However, the purpose of the park today is to safeguard our biodiversity in accordance with the Namibia Constitution," Nandi-Ndaitwa told a gathering celebrating the Centenary-Plus Anniversary of the Namib-Naukluft Park in the Namibian desert over the past weekend.
