Qualcomm and Zhenhua Sign CDMA2000 Subscriber Unit License Agreement

Qualcomm (News - Alert) Incorporated, a developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, and China Zhenhua Science & Technology Co., Ltd., announced today that they’ve entered a subscriber unit license agreement.

Under the agreement, Qualcomm grants Zhenhua a worldwide license under its patent portfolio to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA2000 subscriber units.

“Qualcomm and its worldwide partners are transforming the way people interact with the world around them,” said Marvin Blecker, president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing.

“This license agreement will enable Zhenhua to develop, manufacture and sell 3G CDMA2000 devices, helping to make next-generation wireless technologies and solutions more personal, affordable and accessible to people everywhere,” Blecker continued.

Qualcomm Incorporated officials say their company develops and delivers “innovative” digital wireless communications products and services based on CDMA.

Officials at Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, say the company developed the first reflective Interferometric Modulation (IMOD) color mirasol display.

The move is a step forward for Qualcomm MEMS Technologies and its phased approach to move mirasol displays into mainstream mobile devices.

The first 0.9-inch IMOD color mirasol display will be introduced by Freestyle Audio, creator of the world’s first and only waterproof, shockproof and virtually indestructible mp3 player, in its next-generation MP3 player product line.

IMOD technology requires no backlighting and reflects light so that wavelengths interfere with each other creating pure, vivid colors. Mobile devices, such as MP3 players and mobile phones, stand to benefit from mirasol displays which require significantly less power and harness ambient light sources to automatically scale for optimal viewing in virtually any lighting condition, company officials say.

“Zhenhua is pleased to expand its product portfolio with a new license from Qualcomm,” said Xianmin Fu, vice-general manager of Zhenhua. “We are excited to continue to grow within a dynamic and competitive mobile marketplace where advanced devices, applications and services are delivering more capabilities to more people than ever before.”

China Zhenhua (Group) Science & Technology Co., Ltd. manufactures digital wireless communications terminal (CDMA and GSM mobile phone and other devices) and new electronic parts.
