Two-day The Hindu Education Plus Fair

Number of colleges and career counselling institutions will participate

Afternoon sessions explore many options beyond professional courses

CHENNAI: For Class 12 students heading for the next step of college and a career, it can seem like a confused jungle of options out there. As they sort through the tangle of applications and admissions, counselling and cut-offs, this year’s edition of The Hindu Education Plus Fair aims to provide the information needed to make those crucial decisions.

The two-day fair will be held this weekend, on May 24 and 25, at the Centenary Auditorium Hall of the University of Madras.

A number of colleges and career counselling institutions will be represented, offering students the opportunity for direct contact, all at the same place.

Health Secretary V.K. Subburaj — also responsible for medical education in the State — will inaugurate the fair at 9.30 a.m. on May 24.

Schedule

The morning session on Day 1 has a panel of experts from both engineering and medical fields to answer all queries.

Former Anna University admissions director P.V. Navaneethakrishnan and Stanley Medical College professor Sudha Seshaiyan will join two educational consultants, Jayaprakash Gandhi of Turning Point India and Geetha Prabhu of AIMS Education, on the panel.

The afternoon seminar, from 2 to 5 p.m., will explore the opportunities in both software and core engineering sectors. Industry leaders from Ashok Leyland, Lucas TVS, Cognizant and NIIT will participate in the seminar.

Workshop

Day 2 kicks off at 10 a.m. with a workshop on getting equipped for future careers with a focus on soft skills, communication techniques and other tools for success. Human resource management consultants from Ma Foi will offer tips on employability skills, while career mapping and counselling firm Bodhi will conduct a psychometric test for students.

Afternoon sessions explore some of the many options beyond professional courses, with a TCS advisor speaking on the opportunities in biosciences, and an Asian College of Journalism professor talking about careers in the media. For students looking beyond Indian shores, a Sun Australia representative will offer advice on studying abroad.

The fair is supported by lead sponsor Indian Bank. Seminar sponsors include AIMS Education for the Pre-counselling session, NIIT for the IT Edge session, Sun Australia for the Get Equipped session and Alpha Group of institutions for the session on Off-beat Options.

While Airtel is the communications partner, Radio One is the radio partner and Sabols will sponsor water supplies.

The gift sponsors are ITC Classmate and iCare Communication.
