Veteran Swede Thomas Johansson had to call on all of his experience to defeat Michael Tabara at the ARAG World Team Cup.
The former World No.7 saved four match points in defeating Tabara 6-2 4-6 7-6 (7-5) and, in doing so, gave Sweden an unassailable 2-0 lead in its round robin clash against the Czech Republic.
Earlier, Robin Soderling needed three sets to defeat World No.12 Tomas Berdych 6-4 1-6 6-3. Sweden can book a place in the final when it takes on the USA in its final round robin tie.
American James Blake cruised past Guillermo Canas 7-6 (7-4) 6-4, while Juan Ignacio Chela squared the ledger for Argentina with a 6-2 4-6 7-6 (7-5) victory over Wayne Odesnik.
In other results, Germany's Phillip Kohlschreiber defeated veteran Italian Potito Starace 6-2 7-6 (7-5) and Spaniard David Ferrer proved too strong for Russian Mikhail Youzhny 6-3 6-3.
