Ljubicic rallies to stop Hajek in Austria

POERTSCHACH, Austria: Third-seeded Ivan Ljubicic rallied to defeat Jan Hajek 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 Tuesday in the first round of the Hypo Group International.

American John Isner defeated Italian qualifier Simone Vagnozzi 6-3, 6-2. Isner will next play top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko.

Ljubicic dropped his opening service game and lost the set without a break point against the 301st-ranked Czech.

From the start of the second set, Ljubicic won nine straight games and finally wrapped up the victory on his 12th ace. He will play Ivan Navarro in the second round.

Also, fifth-seeded American Sam Querrey beat Oliver Marach of Austria 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a match that was suspended Monday due to rain.
