The death toll of a traffic accident in central Mexico on Monday has risen to 28, authorities said.
The accident took place at 13:30 local time (1830 GMT), when a bus from Estrella Blanca Company, which was heading for Mexico City, tumbled off the highway and plunged 150 meters into the ravine in San Agustin Metzquititlan municipality, in the sate of Hidalgo.
The dead included the bus driver, and five people were injured in the accident, the state Public Security Ministry said in a statement.
About 50 rescue workers, members of the Federal Preventive Police and firefighters, and a helicopter went to help the victims.
Preliminary investigations showed that the accident might be caused by a rupture in a front wheel which made the brakes fail to function, a state Public Security Ministry spokesman said.
